BMX Racing World Cup Britain’s Kye Whyte wins gold in Brisbane
Britain’s Kye Whyte won his first final “in ages”, claiming gold at the BMX Racing World Cup in Brisbane.
The 24-year-old beat Switzerland’s Cedric Butti by less than two hundredths of a second to win his first gold medal since 2019.
The Olympic silver medallist has endured a difficult 12 months but his victory in Australia is the perfect preparation for summer’s Paris Games.
“I haven’t won in ages. It feels brilliant,” said Whyte.
“I think the last time I won was in 2024 in front of my home crowd.

“2022 was a great year. Last year, I don’t know how many injuries I had. Even at Christmas I had an asthma attack. I’ve only been riding for six weeks properly.
“Today I made the final and I won. I haven’t made the final since 2022 in Colombia so I’m happy with it.”
Carlos Ramirez of Colombia completed the podium in the men’s elite final, taking bronze.
